Concerns about lead poisoning in children have prompted the state health department to suggest doctors check children for the problem twice in the first two years of life. The department’s Betty Mahjoud says there’s no immunization for lead poisoning. Health officials estimate only about 10% of Missouri’s children younger than six are tested for lead poisoning. Last year, about 5,100 cases of lead poisoning in children were found.
