St. Louis Congressman Richard Gephardt is in Florida, lending support to Vice President Al Gore’s challenge of that state’s certification of George W. Bush as the winner of its electoral votes. If it stands, Bush would be the new president. Gephardt holds out hope the latest legal challenges will overturn the outcome and give the presidency to Gore. Gephardt is the leading Democrat in the US House. He has joined the leading Senate Democrat, Tom Daschle of South Dakota, in the protest of the Bush certification in Florida.
