A recent Kansas City audit shows too many city employees are using city cars. City auditor Mark Funkhouser says those workers should instead get money for travel expenses. He estimates the city could save $440,000 a year through reduced wear-and-tear, maintenance, replacement costs, insurance, and other regular car expenses. He says the police department has cut back 80 of its city-issued cars, and other departments should follow suit.
