Construction work is everywhere you look at the state capitol right now. Randy Allen, the director of the state division of design and construction, says they’re re-lighting and re-painting many of the hallways inside. That and new bathrooms and senate hearing rooms will eventually cost $15 million. Several years of exterior stone work finished just days before Governor Carnahan’s funeral–that cost $3 million. Crews are also replacing the capitol’s entire heating system over the next couple of years at a pricetag of several million dollars. Allen says it’s important to maintain the seat of Missouri government and the workplace for several hundred state employees.
