Hancock ruling awards $244 million

November 16, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A court ruling by a judge in Jefferson City comes as good news to those who filed a class action lawsuit against the state regarding Hancock Amendment refunds. Judge Tom Brown says the state of Missouri owes taxpayers an additional $244 million. The ruling is a split decision. While the judge ruled that taxpayers are owed the money, he also ruled against additional refunds as they pertain to tax credits. The ruling determined tax credits are excluded from total state revenue. The Missouri Attorney General’s Office says the split decision likely means more court action.
