The man elected lieutenant governor last Tuesday had been hoping for some “down time” before taking over the job in January. But that’s not going to happen. Former state senator Joe Maxwell has been sworn in almost two months early. He resigned from the state senate yesterday and then agreed to take the appointment as lieutenant governor. The office has been vacant since Roger Wilson became governor a month ago. Maxwell will be sworn in for his regular four-year term in January.
