Election to replace 3 lawmakers

November 15, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The governor’s office has announced a special election in January to replace three state senators. Senator Joe Maxwell and two other state senators resigned their seats early. Spokesman for Governor Wilson, Jerry Nachtigal, says Maxwell has talked with Wilson about taking the lieutenant governor’s job early, though no decisions have been made. State senators Lacy Clay and Sam Graves are also resigning their seats to take seats in Congress. Republicans need to win at least one of the three special elections in January to gain control of the senate for the first time in decades.
