Outspoken federal judge Scott Wright has pronounced the war on drugs a failure. Furthermore, he says, it is destroying inner-city communities. Wright, who’s based in Kansas City, calls drugs a “cancer” on the country, but says the war against them produces searches that are illegal and discrimination against minorities. And he says the war has led to a degradation of constitutional rights. Wright also says police agencies that benefit from the money they seize are professionally compromised by the conflict-of-interest.
