Maxwell considers early departure

November 13, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

State Senator Joe Maxwell of Mexico is trying to decide when he should go. He’s been elected lieutenant governor, and says he’s been talking to citizens in his district and meeting with some state representatives who might be interested in running in a special election to replace him. Missouri does not have a lieutenant governor, since Roger Wilson moved up to the governorship last month. Wilson says he’d like to appoint a lieutenant governor as soon as possible. Maxwell says he has had discussions with Wilson. He could potentially resign his senate seat early, and take an appointment from Governor Wilson. A decision is expected tomorrow.
