Republican Jim Talent has conceded in an extremely close race for Missouri governor. Talent calls on Missourians to unite behind Democrat Bob Holden, the governor-elect. Holden won 49.1% of the vote with a total of 1,152,211 votes. Talent won 48.2% of the vote. His total was 1,130,963 votes. Talent gathered reporters together in St. Louis this afternoon. While he had not yet spoken to Holden, he encouraged Missourians to support his win. There were voting irregularities in St. Louis. Talent declined to blame them for his loss and indicated that if there is a recount in his election, he did not expect it to change the result of his race.
