Jean Carnahan declined to attend the Democratic Party gathering in St. Louis, but did place a call to the group meeting at the Park Plaza Hotel. She told the group, in a phone call broadcast over the room’s loudspeakers, that Governor Carnahan would be proud of them. “You have stayed the course, you have kept the faith, you have carried our hopes and dreams.” It appears Mrs. Carnahan will be going to Washington.
