A St. Louis University economic impact study finds Proposition-B, Missouri’s campaign finance initiative, could harm the state’s economy. John McGowan says it would wipe out much of the recent decrease in the corporate franchise tax. McGowan says Missouri is having a tough enough time attracting businesses to the state. He says an extra tax on new businesses will prompt them to look elsewhere. Opponents of the measure sponsored the research. The proposal would allow some political parties and individuals to have their campaigns funded by the public through a tax on businesses.
