Royals Considering Surprise for Spring Training

November 1, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Surprise! That’s where the Royals may be training in the near future. Surprise, Arizona to be precise. Several Royals officials, including manager Tony Muser and George Brett, were in Arizona Monday stumping for Proposition 302. That measure would provide funds for a new stadium for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, but would also raise money for a spring training complex the Royals would share with the Texas Rangers. The Royals have trained in Florida since 1969, but their lease at Baseball City expires after 2002. Royal’s chief operating officer Herk Robinson says the team plans to move its spring training camp to Surprise even if the referendum fails.
