Jean Carnahan has accepted. At the family farm in Rolla, Mrs. Carnahan made her announcement to a group of reporters: “Should the people of Missouri elect my husband, I pledge to take their common dreams to the United States Senate…” Carnahan says she will accept the appointment offered by Governor Roger Wilson after the death of her husband, Mel Carnahan. Carnahan, a son and a campaign aide died in a plane crash south of St. Louis October 16th. Despite his death, his name will remain on the ballot November 7th against Republican incumbent John Ashcroft.
