Elvis Grbac fired three first half touchdown passes, and the Chiefs held on to beat Seattle 24-19. Grbac hit Derrick Alexander for long scoring strikes of 59 and 50 yards, and hooked up with Kevin Lockett for a 34 yard TD as the Chiefs took a 21-10 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Chiefs managed only Todd Peterson’s field goal with 42 seconds left. The Chief defense made some big plays, notably: James Hasty’s interception in the end zone in the final minute of the first half, and Derrick Ranson’s tackle of Ricky Watters for a five yard loss on third and goal from the one in the third quarter. Seattle settled for a field goal. Grbac completed 22 of 35 for 342 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions. The Chiefs managed just 76 yards rushing. They are 5-3, still two games behind Oakland, which beat San Diego 15-13 on five field goals.
