Opponents say Prop-B effort flawed

October 27, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Some of the opponents to Proposition B, Missouri’s campaign finance initiative, are calling for an investigation into the activities of the groups funding the campaign. Dan Mehan of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, says more than 86% of the money collected and spent by supporters, $958,000, comes from outside Missouri. And more than half of that comes from a single donor. Mehan says there are questions as to whether tax-exempt groups are funding the political campaign in violation of federal law. He is asking the Missouri Ethics Commission, the U.S. Attorney General, and the Internal Revenue Service to look into the matter.
