The head of the Republican Party in Missouri claims Governor Roger Wilson might be moving illegally by naming who he would appoint to the US Senate seat should the late Mel Carnahan still win November 7th. State Republican Party Chairman Ann Wagner suggests Democrats should mount a write-in campaign, even though such a campaign might be a long shot. She believes the present course violates the federal Hatch Act. The attorney general doesn’t see it that way. Jay Nixon has reviewed the Hatch Act and sees nothing illegal in Wilson’s actions. Nixon says they don’t need to mount a write-in campaign.
