Several hundred students filled the student center at Evangel University in Springfield to hear vice-presidential nominee Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynn. Secretary Cheney spoke about giving taxpayers a piece of the budget surplus, cutting taxes, and building education and the military. He also told the college-aged crowd they would be able to invest a portion of their social security taxes in the stock market to get higher returns. This was his third visit to Missouri in less than a week’s time. He spoke in Fulton on October 11th, watched a Cardinals game in St. Louis on the 12th, and made the appearance in Springfield on the 16th.
