Carnahan memorialized before thousands

October 20, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Missouri says good-bye to Mel Carnahan, the 51st governor of the state who died Monday night in a plane crash south of St. Louis. A procession began at the governor’s mansion and wound its way to the south lawn of the State Capitol. State supreme court judge Michael Wolff, who served as Carnahan’s Chief Counsel in his first term, says Carnahan drew on the strength of the two who died with him Monday. The public funeral attracted dignitaries from throughout the country as well as thousands of Missourians who crowded in front of the Capitol. President Clinton spoke of his friendship with Carnahan. A private service will be held tomorrow in Rolla for both Mel and Randy Carnahan. Another private service will be held Sunday in Puxico for Chris Sifford. — Listen to Carnahan funeral service (Jefferson City) at: https://www.missourinet.com/audio_archive.htm
