(Jefferson City) A highly competitive race for Senate has come to an end and turned into a time of mourning. The race between John Ashcroft and Mel Carnahan was what some would call bitter. The tone had taken a change at the candidates’ last debate a day before Carnahan’s plane went down killing the Governor. The last confrontation between the two ended with a handshake. ….. (Jefferson City) Congressman Jim Talent is calling off some of his campaigning in respect of Governor Mel Carnahan. Talent is the Republican candidate for Governor and he says this is a tragic day for all Missourians. Talent urges Missourians to share their sympathy with both the Carnahan and Sifford families.
