(Jefferson City) Senator Ashcroft has met with reporters in Jefferson City to express his concern over the tragic deaths of Governor Carnahan, Randy Carnahan and Chris Sifford. Ashcroft took no questions from reporters but read his prepared statement. In part, it said, “Governor Carnahan served the people of Missouri with dignity and honor for more than four decades” who will be remembered for his “exemplary public service and for his dedication to his family as a husband, a father, and a grandfather.” Carnahan was running against Senator Ashcroft who is a former Missouri governor. Ashcroft has ended his campaign activities. Official confirmation has not been made, but it is accepted that Carnahan, his son Randy and aide Chris Sifford were killed in a plane crash last night in Jefferson County.
