Student strip search protested

October 16, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The ACLU has met with the lawyer for the Adrian school district and offered three remedies for parental complaints about the school’s principal. Wallace Henrickson had 4th grad boys strip to their underwear in front of him and a male coach and had 4th grade girls patted down by a female teacher during a search for a missing World War II medal. It was brought there for show-and-tell. The medal eventually turned up on the floor of a classroom. The school has been inundated with complaints about the action. ACLU director for Kansas and Western Missouri, Dick Kurtenbach says the district has responded favorably to the group’s request. He does not anticipate filing a lawsuit.
