Education funding became a big issue as the two major candidates for governor squared off in their third and final debate. Democrat Bob Holden came out strong against Republican Jim Talent’s Classroom Trust Fund proposal during the debate on Ozarks Public Television in Springfield. Talent contends the state has been placing gambling revenue in education only to reduce the general revenue expenditures for schools by an equal amount. He says he will maintain general revenue, plus add gambling money. Holden insists gambling money is already going to the schools.
