Republican vice-presidential candidate Dick Cheney used an appearance at Westminster College yesterday to attract the votes of aging baby-boomers. Secretary Cheney promised he and running mate George W. Bush would take care of veterans as they get older. He also pledged to modernize Medicare and revamp social security. Cheney also discussed the conflict in the Middle East and national security. He spoke for about twenty minutes and answered several questions from the old Westminster gymnasium. It is the same site where British Prime Minister Winston Churchill gave the “Iron Curtain” speech in 1946. Cheney also toured the Winston Churchill memorial. Several hundred people attended, about half of them Westminster students.
