Americans labeled better eaters

October 11, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Americans’ eating habits have changed since 1994 when the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act made it mandatory for foodmakers to post labels informing consumers of the fat content of their favorite foods. University of Missouri researcher Michael Finke says we’re eating healthier. Another development brought about by the law–fewer questionable claims on packaging. Finke points out that not everyone is using the labeling to eat healthier. He says those who ignored the few labels that existed before 1994 are ignoring them now.
