Skydiving accident remains unsolved

October 10, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

An early investigation of the parachute worn by skydiver Troy Pipkin in his fatal fall at Mount Vernon airport last week shows his chute was not manually deployed. And it shows the automatic activation device he was wearing might not have been turned on. The Lawrence County sheriff says the examine could not determine if Pipkin intentionally failed to open his parachute or had not done so for some unknown reason. Pipkin was one of four skydivers who jumped out of a plane at 10,000 feet. The other three landed safely.
