State Supreme Court judges hear arguments on whether an oath on most Missourians’ personal property tax forms violate the concept of separation of church and state. Attorney Gail Wechsler, in oral arguments before the court, argued her client Robert Oliver objects to signing the form, because it contains the phrase “So help me God”. Supreme Court Judge Duane Benton and others questioned whether the phrase truly violates the state’s constitution. Some judges suggest those who object can simply strike the language on the form and then sign it. A decision will come later.
