A national assessment of drug use in Missouri suggests tens of thousands of Missourians had used illegal drugs in the month before the survey was run. It also concludes more than 1 million Missourians had been binge drinkers. The head of the state division of alcohol and drug abuse, Michael Couty, thinks the numbers might be a little high, but says they’re alarming. Couty says marijuana is the drug of choice among young people, but methamphetamine takes over later–especially in rural areas.
