Interstate 70 to be six lanes

October 9, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Highway planners have announced they are moving ahead with plans to rebuild and widen Interstate-70 on its present course. The Missouri Department of Transportation intends to make the highway 6 lanes wide from Route-7 in Kansas City to Lake St. Louis. Planners decided against a proposal to build a new, parallel, eight-lane road for approximately the same price just north of 70. MODOT staff will now get down to the particulars of where they’ll need to acquire right-of-way, how to get through or around cities like Columbia, Wright City, and Wentzville, and how to pay for the project. No one knows where the state will come up with the $3 billion dollars to complete the project.
