A report by federal investigators on nursing homes has Senator Kit Bond calling for closer examination of the state inspection system. Senator Bond says the report has turned up some unpleasant news about many of Missouri’s nursing homes which had been given the “seal of approval.” More than a quarter of the homes inspected had serious deficiencies, Bond said, and a third of those inspected knew when inspectors were coming and could clean-up problems before they arrived. The state Division of Aging says this is NOT a crisis situation, and insists Missouri is making great strides in dealing with the needs and concerns of those in the state’s nursing homes.
