Public school districts throughout Missouri and the rest of the country are looking for teachers to fill shortages. Jim Morris of the state Department of Education says the problem is that many teachers are reaching the retirement age, and there aren’t enough new teachers coming along to fill the vacancies. And even when the vacancies are filled, he says the newcomers don’t always stay. Morris says many would-be teachers are choosing other careers because the pay is much better.
