Andy Benes is pushing for a spot in the Cardinals post-season rotation. Benes pitched six innings allowing just one run as the Cards beat the Padres 7-1. Benes is trying to bounce back from a knee injury that sent him to the disabled list in August. Edgar Renteria drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, and Jim Edmonds launched his 42nd home run. The Cardinals trail Atlanta by two games and San Francisco by one, in the race for home field advantage in the playoffs.
