A series of debates could decide the outcome of Missouri’s race for John Ashcroft’s U.S. Senate seat. But it’s unclear when and where those debates will be held or IF they will be held. Mel Carnahan’s campaign has put forward four dates and venues but the Ashcroft campaign has suggested other opportunities for debates, including one next Monday at a St. Louis radio station. Sara Howard of the Carnahan for Senate Committee says her candidate has made promises to debate elsewhere. The Ashcroft campaign says the senator has been ready and willing to debate Governor Carnahan but it claims the governor has passed up the opportunities presented so far.
