Missouri highway planners better not look to the legislature for more funding. MODOT predicts the state will be $1.5 billion dollars short in annual construction funding. But Danny Staples, the chairman of the Senate transportation committee, doesn’t expect any new money coming out of the next general assembly. He says lawmakers and voters in general are in no mood to approve a package of taxes or toll roads. He says he won’t sponsor new funding himself because it would be a waste of time. The legislature last year did O-K $2.25 billion in new borrowing but no new tax or revenue source.
