United Way stands by scouts in MO

September 19, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

United Way agencies in Missouri aren’t anxious to pull their funding from the Boy Scouts. A few United Way offices have revoked their funding, because of the scouts policy banning troop leaders. Ron Howard, spokesman for the Heart of America United Way chapter in Kansas City, says they gave almost $1 million dollars to the scouts this year and plan to again next year. Gloria Ross, spokeswoman in St. Louis, says her agency gave nearly $1.75 million to the scouts this year. They plan a comparable amount next year. In Columbia, funding will hold steady around $50,000. The agencies say they’ve heard of no Missouri chapters planning changes.
