State republican party executive director John Hancock welcomes a federal appeals court ruling that throws out state-imposed limits on how much political parties can donate to their candidate’s campaigns. Hancock sees the state’s restrictions as a violation of his party’s rights. State democratic party executive director Roy Temple says the ruling mixes some confusion into the stretch run of the 2000 campaign, and opens up the floodgates to any kind of contribution. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled the limits unfairly restricted the free speech of political parties. The attorney general is appealing the ruling to the Supreme Court.
