Turns out the Chiefs can have great success throwing the football. Elvis Grbac fired five touchdown passes, including three to rookie Sylvester Morris, and the Chiefs rolled to their first win of the year, beating the Chargers, 42-10. The last Chief QB to throw for five touchdowns was Len Dawson in 1967, and the last receiver with three TDs was Otis Taylor in 1969. The Chiefs had fallen behind 10-0 in the first quarter when Grbac had an interception returned for a TD, but Kansas City scored the next 42 points. Morris caught six passes for 112 yards. The Chiefs held the Chargers to 49 yards rushing and outgained them 349 yards to 187 for the game.
