Cop cleared in shooting

September 18, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Police have been cleared in the shooting death of a despondent Owensville man. Chris Carter, 21, held authorities at bay earlier this year by holding a gun to his head. It happened in the parking lot of an Owensville restaurant where Carter’s former girlfriend worked. Carter eventually fired a shot over the head of police and was then killed with a single shot by an unnamed law enforcement officer. Special Prosecutor Bill Tackett says a grand jury on Monday refused to hand-up an indictment, saying police used appropriate force in the death.
