Southwest Missouri State bounced back from its opening loss to a bigger school, Arkansas, by beating a smaller school, Missouri Southern. The Bears evened their record at 1-1 with an easy 48-3 win over the Lions. In the MIAA, Northwest Missouri State, Central Missouri State and Missouri-Rolla all finished the non-conference schedule at 2-0. Northwest held off Minnesota State-Mankato 34-28. Central whipped Quincy 75-0, and UMR topped Missouri Valley 22-20. Missouri Western lost at Fort Hays State, 23-15. Truman State fell to South Dakota, 38-14. Southwest Baptist was beaten by Central Arkansas, 23-7.
