Bond wins fight over Big Muddy

September 12, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

A proposal to increase flows from upstream reservoirs into the Missouri River during the Spring has been defeated in the US Senate. Senator Kit Bond successfully mounted an all-out assault against the proposal by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Bond proposed his provision to prevent increased Spring flows. Bond argued it would increase the chance of flooding and ruin the navigation season on the Missouri River. Supporters countered the increased flows would have been cancelled during wet Springs.
