Wash U caught in debate debate

September 11, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

The major presidential candidates don’t seem too interested in a debate schedule recommended in January by the Commission on Presidential Debates. And that leaves schools like Washington University in the lurch. The Commission has proposed a Presidential debate for October 17th there. Wash. U’s debate steering committee chairman, Steve Givens, says the school has no choice but to go ahead with preparations. Washington University was the host of a debate in 1992. But the candidates torpedoed a debate there in 1996 when they could not agree to the commission’s recommendations.
