Royal Bullpen Blows Up Again

September 8, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

Royals starter Dan Reichert walked nine Yankees in 8 innings, but somehow, still had them shut out as he allowed just two hits. The Royal bullpen took over in the ninth, and allowed five hits, and a walk, and committed an error… the Yankees won 7-3. The victims were Ricky Bottalico, Kris Wilson, and Scott Mullen. In a gross understatement, Royals manager Tony Muser said after the game, “We’re going to have to find somebody to get some people out.” The Royals led 1-0 before the Yankees erupted for 7 runs. The Royals answered with two in the bottom of the ninth, but fell short, losing three out of four in the series. The Royals host Texas tonight. Blake Stein will start against Ryan Glynn.
