A lot of students who would otherwise be in class this week are taking another day off today because of the heat. Assistant Commissioner for Instruction Orlo Shroyer says kids don’t learn much when its this hot and tend to act up. And he says the bus rides to and from school can be pretty torturous, too. Shroyer thinks students of all ages are affected, as are teachers. He doesn’t think starting school later is the answer, since June can get pretty hot and students are already distracted by the end of the year.
