Cone Hurt as Yanks Beat Royals

September 6, 2000 By admin Leave a Comment

It was a painful return to Kauffman Stadium this time for David Cone. The Yankees beat the Royals 10-5, but Cone suffered a separated left shoulder making a diving catch of a bunt and writhed in pain on the turf before being taken to the hospital. It was not Cone’s throwing arm, and he hopes to return to the Yankee rotation before the season is over. David Justice, Clay Bellinger and Scott Brosius homered for the Yanks. Brosius hit an 8th-inning grand slam off reliever Andy Larkin to put the game away. Jeff Suppan allowed 5 runs and 10 hits in 5 and 2/3 innings to fall to 7-9. The teams meet again tonight in the third game of their four game series.
