Today could mark the eighth day in a row parts of the Kansas City area will see temperatures over 100 degrees. Highs today are forecast at 101. It reached 105 degrees downtown yesterday, a new record for that day in Kansas City. According to Kansas City Power & Light, the heat prompted a new record for peak power usage yesterday afternoon. Health officials haven’t declared a heat emergency but say they will if the heat wave lasts much longer. In the meantime, the city’s Bishop Sullivan Center is trying to supply fans and free air conditioners to everyone it can. They received more than 40 requests for air conditioners yesterday.
