Royals starting pitching has been very impressive, but it hasn’t always translated into wins. Jeff Suppan pitched well but took the loss last night, 2-1 to Tampa Bay. Suppan went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs. He was matched by Paul Wilson, who went seven innings for the Devil Rays, and allowed five hits and one run. It was the injury-prone Wilson’s longest outing in the majors since 1996. With the score tied at one in the 8th, Bobby Smith doubled home the go-ahead run to give the D-Rays the win. The teams meet again tonight.
