With the temperature climbing over 100 degrees at Kaufmann Stadium, the Royals out-slugged Boston 11-7. Jermaine Dye hit his 31st homer and drove in three runs. He is now five homers short of Steve Balboni’s franchise record. Johnny Damon and Wilson Delgado each had two hits, and Dan Reichert lasted 5 and 2/3 innings in the heat to improve to 8-6. He allowed three runs. Reliever Chris Fussell was cuffed around for four runs in the 8th as the Sox tried to rally from 11-3 deficit. Boston knuckleballer Tim Wakefield allowed 9 runs in 5 innings. The Royals are off today, and then finish their homestand with two games against Minnesota.
