Mizzou will be missing its top receiver when the Tigers host Western Illinois Saturday to open the football season. Travis Garvin has been suspended for the opener, along with reserve offensive tackle Cliff Young. Both committed the dreaded “violation of team rules.” Neither player will be allowed to practice this week. Backup quarterback Jim Dougherty might not practice ever again. Dougherty is out for the year with torn ligaments in his throwing elbow. He will have surgery this week. Dougherty has already used his redshirt year, but might petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt that would allow him to return to the Tigers next year. Darius Outlaw is now the number two quarterback behind Kirk Farmer. The #3 spot could go to freshman Cody Buford, or Justin Gage, who played QB last year but has moved to tight end.
