Senator Kit Bond says he believed from the beginning the presidential campaign will be a close race and nothing he’s seen lately has persuaded him otherwise. Bond says he expected the post-convention bounce Democrat Al Gore has received, placing him in a near dead-heat with Republican George W. Bush. Bond is the coordinator of the Bush Campaign in Missouri. He says recent public opinion poll data confirms how tight a race its going to be. Recent polls have disclosed Gore closed the gap between him and Bush after the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.
