Mark McGwire may not be activated by the Cardinals when rosters expand September 1st. Manager Tony LaRussa says McGwire has worked diligently trying to recover from tendinitis in his knee, but his condition has not improved much. LaRussa was hoping McGwire could at least serve as a pinch hitter, but he is not optimistic about the chances of that happening soon. McGwire hasn’t played since July 6th.
